The switchable pneumatically switched flow (PSF) – water pump is based on a conventional centrifugal pump.
A switch unit is integrated in the pump, connected with the low-pressure system of the vehicle. If the coolant pump is switched on, a slide moves over the vane wheel and interrupts the volume flow. The coolant circulation is stopped, and engine warm-up accelerates. This principle can lead to significant fuel saving.
